Marie des poules
Play for one woman and one man
When Marie Caillaud entered George Sand’s service in Nohant at the age of eleven, she did not yet know that she would be called Marie des Poules, the servant who fetched the eggs from the henhouse. Nor did she know that she would learn to read, write, act and perform 35 plays written by George Sand. Even less does she know that she will experience the suffering of a love that will mark her for life. Maurice, George’s son, had an affair with her that lasted several years.
